This piece was meant to capture our own biases with how African Americans are perceived in society. Though, we are presented a very Renaissance and Baroque-esque style with the figure being adorned with vibrant drapery and having a seated pose as if royal. We also have the contrast of the red halo operating as a red dot (target) and also the black square behind him. At first glance we a driven by the alluring golden skin tone and drapery but as we pay more attention , we think about the context of the black square and the red halo in conjunction with the black seated figure. What does this do for you ?
